10,000 remote medical facilities opened in Vietnam

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the task of the health sector to expand the network of remote medical examination and treatment to more than 14,000 medical facilities nationwide, contributing to improving the quality of health care.

After more than 2 months of implementing the Scheme for remote medical examination and treatment for 2020 – 2025, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group has connected more than 1,000 medical sites with nearly 30 central and municipal hospitals in Hanoi and HCM City. A number of Lao and Cambodian hospitals have also joined the network, which is an important step to promote the image of Vietnam's high quality and responsive healthcare services to the Vietnamese and international friends.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that this is a great step forward for the health sector. This result also shows the Government's decisive direction in implementing the national digital transformation program to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

He highly appreciated the humanity of the Scheme for remote medical examination and treatment and stressed that the event is even more meaningful as the Covid-19 situation worldwide is complicated progressing and Vietnam is still under threat.

Highlighting advantages of the model, the leader said remote health care has not only helped to improve the medical quality but also created a digital foundation for the sector. The Prime Minister agreed with the viewpoint of the scheme for remote medical examination and treatment, which is "Bring the quality of medical examination and treatment to a higher level".

The network should be expanded to more than 14,000 medical facilities nationwide, major Vietnamese hospitals should partner with their counterparts in foreign countries with advanced medicine, he requested.

He asked the health ministry and other relevant ministries and localities to complete a legal framework for remote health care while joining with IT units to develop platforms and apps for the services. PM Phuc urged the comprehensive application of digital technologies at health centers and more efforts in the communication work in order to spread the model.

The Prime Minister also suggested that doctors should enhance their ability and willingness, actively apply remote medical examination and treatment programs to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment to best serve the people.

From this success, the leader expressed his hope that the health ministry will become one of the ministries and agencies that have taken the lead in materializing the national digital transformation program.
