On October 22nd, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam organized a ceremony celebrated the 25th anniversary of Independence Day of Azerbaijan (October 10th, 1991 – 2016) at Melia Hotel Hanoi.

(VNF) - On October 22nd, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam organized a ceremony celebrated the 25th anniversary of Independence Day of Azerbaijan (October 10th, 1991 – 2016) at Melia Hotel Hanoi.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Vietnam Anar Imanov in Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association Nghiem Vu Khai, officials from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam, members of Vietnam–Azerbaijan Friendship Association and Vietnamese students who used to study or work in Azerbaijan attended the event.

On his opening speech H. E. Mr. Anar Imanov Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Vietnam made broad presentation about great role of the National Leader in strengthening the statehood and developing the economy of Azerbaijan.

The country plays a crucial role in the International North–South Transport Corridor (NSTC connects Russia (St. Petersburg) with Mumbai in India and transportation along this corridor will use not only the railway, but also road and sea transport). The project’s intention is to combine the separate sections of the railway line and to create a single transport corridor from Russia to Iran to Azerbaijan more convenient and considerably less expensive for transport of goods.

The Ambassador stressed the history and current developments of the relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam since the Soviet times.

The Ambassador said visits of Vietnam’s first President Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959 and of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev to Vietnam as the First Deputy Chairp of the USSR Cabinet of Ministers in 1983 laid the foundation for friendly relations between the two nations.

Azerbaijan treasures its traditional amity and cooperation with Vietnam and considers the latter as a leading partner in Southeast Asia, he said.

Ambassador Imanov hailed the contributions of friendship groups at Azerbaijani and Vietnamese parliaments, joint inter-governmental commission on economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation, Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association to the development of bilateral cooperation in various spheres.

He hoped that the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association will continue to enhance cultural fields; exchange tourism activities in each country and promote training programs about culture between two countries.

Azerbaijan and Vietnam share several cultural similarities despite the distance which separates the two countries. However, potential in economic and trade cooperation has yet to be tapped fully, the diplomat stated.

Mr. Imanov emphasized that besides the historical relations between the two countries there is a big potential in political, economic, tourism, cultural, science and social spheres for the long term cooperation.

The establishment of Vietnam-Azerbaijan inter-governmental committee on economic-trade and scientific-technological co-operation, Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association as well as the extension of Azerbaijan Cultural and Science center in Vietnam from Azerbaijani History and Culture Research Centre added impute to the increasing relations between Azerbaijan-Vietnam and this relations will contribute to the welfare of the both countries, peace, stability and cooperation in the regions and in the world.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam - Azerbaijan Friendship Association Nghiem Vu Khai expressed his joyfulness at the great achievements that Azerbaijan achieved during the past 25 years; and thanked the Embassy of Azerbaijan has always supported the Association with its activities. He also affirmed that 2017 will be the year of action and effectiveness for the Association.

Earlier, on May 27th, in Hanoi, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam have celebrated 98th the Republic Day of Azerbaijan (May 28th, 1918 - 2016), with the attended of Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy, leaders’ Vietnam - Azerbaijan Friendship Association, Vietnamese alumnus in Azerbaijan, representatives of Vietnamese agencies, with the international friends of Azerbaijan./.
