Tens years after the realization of an instruction on a housing program for labourers by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), nearly 1,000 workers in the southern province of Ca Mau have stabilised their lives in new houses.

Ca Mau province: Over VND11 billion mobilised to build houses for poor workers

Accordingly, trade unions at all levels have encouraged a donation of over VND11 billion. The money has been spent building and repairing 700 houses for low-income workers and officials. In addition, sponsors donate over VND1.3 billion each year to build and repair houses for low-income workers and officials.

According to the Ca Mau provincial Confederation of Labour, a majority of workers and labourers in the province have low and unstable income, leading to difficulties in housing and accommodation. Meanwhile, the number of buildings for workers only satisfies the need of some 300 workers each year.

Chau Thanh Ton, President of the provincial Confederation of Labour, said that the housing program held great significance for poor workers facing housing difficulties. From now until 2020, the confederation will expand the program, striving to give housing support to 150-200 workers each year, according to Mr. Ton./.
