(VNF) - Cambodia Deputy PM Men Sam An on July 31 met with former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who helped Cambodia overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime.

Within the framework of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (1967-2017), former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers have returned to Cambodia where lots of their comrades sacrificed their lives in helping the neighboring country overthrow the genocidal regime, for a two-day trip.

At the meeting on July 31, Cambodia Deputy PM Men Sam An reiterated the great contributions of former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers 38 years ago. These carefree contributions helps to develop and foster the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Deputy Men Sam an also expressed her delight at the good result of Vietnamese General Secretary’s state visit to Cambodia. The visit creates a solid foundation for further strengthening and developing the relations between the two countries in the coming time.

She praised the achievements of the Vietnam – Cambodia Association in promoting people-to-people diplomacy. She urged the Vietnam – Cambodia Association to further be a bridge for the two peoples, especially young generations to inherit and tighten the traditional friendship between the two countries.

On behalf of the former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, Vu Mao, Chairman of the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association expressed his pleasure at the renovation and development of Cambodia. Although many of them are elderly, the former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers still wish to contribute to building and fostering friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
