Cuban Ambassador visits Phu Tho, highlighting the need for cooperation
(VNF) - On January 5th, on the 59th anniversary of the Triumph of Cuba’s Revolution (January 1st, 1959-2018), a delegation of Cuban Embassy and Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association had a friendship exchange in Phu Tho province.
Participating the meeting were Do Ngoc Dung, Director of Foreign Affairs Department, the representatives of the provincial People’s Committee and many departments and sectors; Nguyen Duy Cuong, Permanent Vice Chairman of Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association; representatives of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association; and those who used to study or work in Cuba in different periods.
On the side of Cuba were Lianys Torres Rivera, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Vietnam, embassy staff, experts and Cuban students working and studying in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Do Ngoc Dung, Director of Foreign Affairs Department congratulated Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera on being appointed Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam. He believed that the Ambassador would best fulfill her duties during her term of office in Vietnam, contributing to improving the traditional relationship between the two Parties, Governments, armies and peoples in general and Phu Tho province in particular.
He took the occasion to brief the Ambassador on the overview of the geography, potentials, strengthens as well as the economic – socio development of Phu Tho in recent years. He hoped the Ambassador will introduce images, potential and strengthens of the province to international and Cuban people, adding that he wished the friendship between Cuba and Phu Tho province would gain great achievements in cooperation and development.
He stressed that Vietnam would never forget the huge support which Cuba reserved for Vietnam over the past time. He recalled three visits to Vietnam Fidel Castro made. In September 1973, Fidel Castro was the first and only foreign leader to visit the southern liberation area of Vietnam amidst the fiercest time of the war. His next visits were in December 1995 and February 2003, during which the friendship and cooperation between the two countries witnessed new development milestones.

For her part, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera thanked Phu Tho for the warm welcome, affirming that Cuba always highly appreciates the relationship with Vietnam and considers cooperation a pillar in the bilateral relationship.
She emphasised the important of the cooperation relation has been developing between Vietnam and Cuba; also confirmed to be a linking bridge to advertise cooperation opportunities of the province to Cuba businesses.
On behalf of the Cuban embassy, Ambassador Rivera expressed her hope that the Cuban embassy will continue to receive valuable supports from the VUFO, Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and Phu Tho province.
After the meeting, two countries’ delegates took part in a friendship exchange where they enjoyed Phu Tho’s signature dishes as well as songs and dances which created a very friendly and warm gather.
Earlier the same day, the participants visited at Hung King's Temple, the place worships the Hung Kings who are the first founder of the country, the ancestors of the Vietnamese people./.
