Vu Duc Dam's Biography

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam was born on February 3, 1963, as a native citizen in Ngu Hung Commune, Thanh Mien District, Hai Duong Province, according to the 13th National Party Congress official website.

Vu Duc Dam has a doctorate degree in economics. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on February 19, 1993, and became an official member on February 19, 1994.

Positions and Working history

Vu Duc Dam was an alternate member of the 10th Party Central Committee and a member of the 11th and 12th Party Central Committee.

October 1988 – October 1990: an engineer of the Post Technical Trading and Service Company under the General Department of Post;

October 1990 – February 1992: a staff of the Department for Technical Development and Foreign Relations under the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Group

March 1992 – April 1993: a staff of the Office of the General Department of Post;

April 1993 – October 1994: Deputy Director of the Department on Science-Technology and International Cooperation under the General Department of Post;

October 1994 – November 1995: Deputy Director of the Department on International Relations, the Office of the Government;

November 1995 – August 1996: Acting Director, then Director of the ASEAN Department, the Office of the Government;

August 1996 – March 2003: Secretary, then assistant to former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet;

March 2003 – August 2005: Vice Chairman, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee;

August 2005 – November 2007: Deputy Minister of Post-Telecommunication;

November 2007 – May 2008: Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee;

May 2008 – August 2010: Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee;

August 2010 – August 2011: Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee;

Vu Duc Dam's tasks as Deputy Prime Minister

Vu Duc Dam assists the Prime Minister in monitoring and directing the following fields:

- Education and vocational training.

- Science and technology.

- Labor, employment, and social affairs.

- Information and communication.

- Culture, tourism, sports, and physical training.

- Healthcare, population, family, and children affairs.

He also assists the Prime Minister in monitoring and directing the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Labor-Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology, the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences, the Viet Nam National University (Ha Noi), and the Viet Nam National University (Ho Chi Minh City).

He serves as Chairman of the National Education and Human Resource Development Council, Chairman of the Central Council for National Defense and Security Education, Chairman of the National Council for Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Improvement, Head of the State Steering Committee for Tourism, Head of the Interdisciplinary Steering Committee for Food Hygiene and Safety, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, chairman of other national councils and committees, head of other steering committees in relevant fields.
