Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the first half of the year reached an estimated 3.8 million, a year-on-year reduction of 11.3%, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the first half of the year reached an estimated 3.8 million, a year-on-year reduction of 11.3%, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Of this, the arrivals by air decreased 8.6% and overland dropped 8.9%, however, arrivals by sea increased 2.5 folds.

Market analysis revealed that tourists from Asian countries saw declines compared to the same period last year, except Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea and Singapore.

For European countries, Vietnam witnessed an arrivals increase from Germany, Italy, Spain and Finland while reduction was seen in other markets due to economic difficulties, especially Russia (down 13%).

Tourists from the US rose 3.9% while those from Canada declined 4.3%. Arrivals from Australia felt 9% over a year earlier./.
