Indonesia’s 72nd anniversary of independence commemorated in Hanoi

(VNF) - The Indonesia Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 17 to commemorate the 72nd Independence Day of the country and the 62nd anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Indonesia.

(VNF) - The Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 17 to commemorate the 72nd Independence Day of the country and the 62nd anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Indonesia.

The celebration attracts the participation of Vice President cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organization Don Tuan Phong, Chairman of the Vietnam - Indonesia Friendship Organization Nguyen Dang Tien, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Nguyen Xuan Thuy.

Speaking at the event, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi highlighted the establishment of “Strategic Partnership” in 2013. In December 2017, the friendship of both countries has reached 62 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

In the field of economy, trade and investment, bilateral relations between Indonesia and Viet Nam are currently at a positive level. In 2016, trade between the two countries has reached USD 5.58 billion. Indonesia's export value to Viet Nam has reached USD 2.97 billion and import value has attained USD 2.61 billion.

In the first six months of 2017 total trade between Indonesia - Viet Nam has touched USD 3.18 billion, up 24.80% over the same period in 2016. Indonesia's export value to Viet Nam in the first six months of 2017 has reached USD 1.76 billion, higher 37.37%, and the value of Indonesian imports has attained USD 1.42 billion, higher 12.08%.

Indonesia's investment in Viet Nam during the first six months of 2017 valued of USD 23.19 million with 8 new projects. Thus, overall until the end of June 2017, Indonesia's investment in Viet Nam has reached 61 projects with a value of USD 436.09 million, where Indonesia ranked 30th among investor countries in Viet Nam. Meanwhile Viet Nam's has 8 recorded investment projects in Indonesia which is worth USD 51 million in mining, media and manufacture processing industry. Although the investment cooperation between the two countries is still relatively not as big as South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, the inflow of Indonesian investment to Viet Nam continues to increase. Indonesian investors are starting to capitalize on the potential and market opportunities offered by Viet Nam.

Next week, General Secretary of Vietnam Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong, will pay a visit to Indonesia and meet Indonesia President Joko Widodo, Chairman of House of Representative, People’s Consultative Assembly, Provincial People’s Consultative Assembly, leaders of political party and other high ranking officials. The visit is expected to mark a significant development of the relationship of the two countries./.
