Lang Biang recognized as world biosphere reserve

The Lang Biang plateau in Vietnam’s central Highlands province of Lam Dong was recognized as a world biosphere reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on June 9th.

The Lang Biang plateau in Vietnam’s central Highlands province of Lam Dong was recognized as a world biosphere reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on June 9th.

The announcement was made at the 27th session of the International Co-ordinating Council (ICC) of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB).

Lang Biang recognized as world biosphere reserve

With the UNESCO acknowledgement, Vietnam now has nine world biosphere reserves.

The Lang Biang Biosphere Reserve covers 275,439 hectares to the north of Lam Dong Province and it is named like Lang Biang Mountain.

The reserve retains typical qualities of biological persity with its natural landscape which combine with other unique cultural traits of the Central Highlands gongs, which were recognized as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Vice Chairman of Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee, Dr. Pham S emphasised the need to develop and conserve Lang Biang biosphere reserve in the time ahead, focusing on international cooperation and human resource training as well as elevating the image of Lam Dong to international friends through tourism activities./.
