Statistics from the VNASMA showed that after one year, 10 branches had been set up, attracting over 500 members.

The association has visited and given presents and provided rehabilitation services and livelihood advice for the victims of accidents with previously unexploded ordinance (UXO) or mines. Education about the prevention of accidents caused by UXO/mines has reached nearly 1,000 residents so far, with a total capital of VND3 billion.

The association has also pushed up cooperation with State agencies, local authorities, social organizations and international organizations working on mitigating the consequences of UXO/mine accidents after the war.

Addressing the meeting, former Party General Secretary, Le Kha Phieu noted that many localities remain being polluted by UXO/mines, especially in the central and border provinces, which he said needed the joint efforts from ministries, agencies and organizations.

Deputy Minister of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep also confirmed that the national program on UXO/mine action could not be successful without the joint efforts of the whole society, with the operation of the VNASMA being a vivid illustration.

During the meeting, delegates and the VNASMA members donated nearly VND2.4 billion in support of victims of UXO/mine./.
