Ninh Thuan: 200 cows provided for poor families

The Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) on September 20th presented 200 cows, worth VND4 billion, to poor families in the central province of Ninh Thuan.

This is among the significant activities helping accelerate poverty reduction, boost socio-economic development and reinforce defence and security in the province.

Accordingly, VietinBank plans to allocate a total of 500 cows worth over VND10 billion to 250 poor families in the province, with an aim to share difficulties with the families and assist them gaining greater access to economic development, thus gradually escaping poverty.

Apart from the initial 200 cows presented to poor families on September 20th, the remaining 300 are expected to be provided for beneficiaries as soon as possible.

According to Nguyen Thi Thanh Xuan, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the bank’s Board of Directors, each poor family will receive 2 cows which are strong, vaccinated and able to adapt the natural conditions at localities.

“VietinBank hopes that the cows will help poor families develop a herd of cows, and improve their domestic economic conditions,” said Ms Xuan.

Since 2009, VietinBank has earmarked VND36 billion to build 145 houses for poor families and 4 schools in the province; and provide medical equipment and an ambulance for the Ninh Thuan provincial General Hospital./.
