(VNF) – Over VND360 billion was collected from agencies and inpiduals as of January 17th, 8 days after the launch of the program entitled “Bridge of love” by the Ministry of Transport and the National Traffic Safety Committee. The collected money will be used to build bridges in remote areas.

During a meeting on the program on January 17th, Deputy Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the organisers for the program, which helped to effectively carrying out the project on building small-scale bridges to ensure traffic safety across the country.

Under the project lasting until 2017, over 4,000 bridges, costing VND8.3 trillion, will be built across 50 provinces.

The Deputy Prime Minister also made a compliment to the Ministry of Transport as it had urgently inaugurated the construction of 186 bridges in extremely disadvantaged regions in 28 northern mountainous, central and Central Highlands provinces by encouraging enterprises to advance capital.

Before the 2015 lunar New Year festival, 86 bridges will be completed, facilitating the safe travel of people and pupils. Meanwhile, the others are expected to be put into use before the flood season in 2015.

The program “Bridge of love”, launched on January 9th, shows the care for poorest residents of the country who face low income and difficult travel conditions. As the provincial budget cannot afford the bridges, the program is expected to contribute to making positive changes in the life of local residents with new and safe bridges./.
