According to Duong Sa Kha, President of the Soc Trang provincial Fatherland Front, as of late May, drought and salt intrusion damaged 30,959 hectares of rice, vegetables, fruits and aquaculture, causing loss of hundreds of VND. The natural disasters also left negative influence on 23,309 families, said Mr. Kha.

People affected by the natural disasters meet a lot of difficulties in life, with shortages of water, employment and capital for production. A large number of labourers have to leave their homeland for work, with many children having to live far from their parents and not going to school, according to Mr. Kha.

Diverse solutions have been carried out to help the lives of people, including digging canals, reinforcing the dyke system, building water supply constructions, and providing capital for production as well as water containers for households.

However, difficulties remain among the affected households.

After the launching ceremony, over VND7.4 billion and USD5,000 have been collected from organizations, agencies, enterprises and inpiduals./.
