The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) recently carried out a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a policlinic on Song Tu Tay Island.

This event makes up part of the agenda for activities for a VGCL delegation’s working visit to the Spratly Archipelago.

The construction aims to provide the infrastructure needed to provide appropriate healthcare of the armed forces and islanders. It will also be a first-aid destination for fishermen having accidents or injuries at sea.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dang Ngoc Tung, VGCL President stressed that the construction was one of practical activities to mark the 40th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification, the 40th anniversary of the Spratly Archipelago’s liberation and 60th founding of the heroic navy service.

It also showed the affection of trade union members and labourers across the country for islanders and the armed forces as well as fishermen working around the Spratly Archipelago, contributing to the task of protecting the nation’s sovereignty.

Over the past years, the VGCL and trade unions at all levels have carried out practical and effective activities, including the founding of fisheries societies across 28 coastal provinces, gathering over 10,000 members; encouraging perse programs to raise funds for the islanders, fishermen and the armed forces working on the islands./.
