SEA Games 29: Second medal in archery for Vietnam

Vietnamese female archers pocketed another silver medal on August 17th after missing out to Malaysian athletes in the women’s team compound category while Vietnam’s U22 football team defeated Cambodia at the second match of Group B at the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Kuala Lumpur.

(VNF) - Vietnamese female archers pocketed another silver medal on August 17th after missing out to Malaysian athletes in the women’s team compound category while Vietnam’s U22 football team defeated Cambodia at the second match of Group B at the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Kuala Lumpur.

Chau Kieu Oanh, Le Ngoc Huyen and Nguyen Thi Nhat Le entered the final round with considerable pressure from the local audience. The competition ended in a tie in the official time and was decided by a “gold arrows” round.

However, Vietnamese team lost 27-28 to the host and brought the second silver medal to Vietnamese delegation.

Earlier, Chau Kieu Oanh won a silver medal in the women’s inpidual ​recurve event, the first medal for Vietnam at the largest regional sport event.

Ten archery categories are featured at the Games, consisting of inpidual recurve (men and women), recurve team (men, women and mix), inpidual compound (men and women) and compound team (men, women and mix).

Also on August 17th, Vietnam’s U22 football team defeated Cambodia 4-1 at the second match of Group B.

The Vietnamese players scored one goal in the first half and three others in the second half of the match. Cambodia earned one goal from a penalty at the last minutes.

With the second consecutive win, U22 Vietnam are leading Group B with six points. They are scheduled to play against the Philippines on August 20th.

Group B includes Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines.

The same day, Vietnamese female footballers also secured a 3-0 victory against the Philippines.

Both men and women’s football teams are determined to win the title at this year’s games.

Vietnam sent more than 470 athletes to compete at the Games in Malaysia from August 19th-31st. They are scheduled to take part in 32 out of 38 sports and meet about 6,000 athletes from 10 other countries in the region./.
