During the ceremony, statistics from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) showed that Vietnam had set up 408 social welfare facilities in public and private sectors, as well as 76 educational and training facilities. A network of 80,000 social workers nationwide has helped people in disadvantaged circumstances access welfare services.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said the national project’s implementation over the past five years had resulted in adjustments in the welfare policy towards increasing assistance for needy citizens and greater community engagement in charity programmes.

She emphasised that social work is a major factor in ensuring social security and sustainable development, thus it is also a key content in the nation’s development strategy./.
