(VNF) - The Son La Union of Friendship Organisations convened its first congress for the 2017 – 2022 tenure on August 23rd

The ceremony attracts the participation of Mr. Don Tuan Phong, Vice President in-charge cum Secretary General of the Vietnam Union of Friend Organisations (VUFO).

At the congress, the People's Committee of Son La province announced the Decision No. 1487 / QD-UBND on the establishment of the Son La Union of Friendship Organisations.

Ms. Trang Thi Xuan, Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee, was elected as the Union’s Chairwoman, heading a 19-member-executive board.

The delegates at the Congress agreed to improve its activities towards organising more cultural, artistic and educational exchanges, in order to strengthen the bilateral friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Son La and foreign countries. The Union will continue working as a consultant and a bridge for Vietnamese and international businesses.

The Union will also aim to be an active member of the VUFO, and contribute to enhancing the partnership between Son La and international countries in education, culture and economics.

During the Congress, several key tasks for the 2017 - 2022 tenure were addressed, including building and expanding the Union; fostering the connection between Son La with international peace organisations, friendship organisations, NGOs, inpiduals for a wider network; mobilising and distributing effectively the aids from these organisations; enhancing propaganda about the friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and foreign countries; creating favorable conditions for Son La people to learn more about the international countries and its people, and vice versa.

Emphasising the province’s role as a bridge connecting the region with areas bordering Laos (250km border line), the delegates noted the province is an important focal point to strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with the northern Lao provinces .

They agreed that Union should mobilise all resources to expand the network of partners in order to enhance links with organisations and people in northern provinces of Laos in particular and the political and social organizations of the Laos in general.

On this occasion, the VUFO also presented VND 144 million (USD 6.336) to support the people affected by floods of Muong La district./.
