(VNF) – Students from 32 schools in Vientiane on September 22 took part in the contest testing their understandings of the long-standing friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The contest is launched as part of the activities to celebrate the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship year 2017 (source: VN embassy in Laos)

The event was conducted by the Youth Union of Vientiane city, sponsored by the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, the Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh city and enterprises in Laos and Vietnam.

According to the organizing board, the event themed “Scientific quizz on Vietnam – Laos bilateral relations and cooperations” is the chance for the juniors in Vientiane to gain knowledges of the distinguished solidarity and friendship as well as comprehensive cooperation between two countries.

Questions of the contests focus on issues such as: history of two countries’ bilateral relations, President Ho Chi Minh and his revolutionary endeavours in Laos, the shared borders, Independence Day of Vietnam, Lao and the relations between Vietnam, Laos and ASEAN, among others.

The contest is launched as part of the activities to celebrate the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship year 2017, 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations establishment and 50th anniversary of the Agreement of Amity and Cooperation.

The contest is also a platform for Laos young people to enrich their knowledge on the history of Vietnam - Laos bilateral ties (source: VOV)

Sukmaly Thammavonoge, Vice Secretary of the Vientiane city's Youth Union said: “The contest aims to educate the youth on the treasured long-standing relations between Vietnam and Laos, between two Parties, two states and peoples. The contest is also a platform for young people of Laos to enrich their knowledges in history and be inspired by the past generations' devotion for liberty, independence of the country, so they will put more efforts in self-improvement, contributing to national defense and development.”

Phutthasone Xuphanuvonge, a student from Saiphon secondary school said:

“I am glad to participate in this contest, which helps us gain insights of the historic milestones of the bilateral ties between Vietnam and Laos. I wish that similar activity will be held more regularly, so the students like us will have chance to learn more about the friendship between our two countries.”/.
