Giorgio Parisi, an Italian theoretical physicist, whose research has focused on quantum field theory, statistical mechanics and complex systems, becomes the sixth Italian scientist to receive the award, that he shares with Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann, for “groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex physical systems”.
