Vietnam is set to reopen regular international flights in two phases, with the first connecting the country to nine markets, said Vo Huy Cuong, deputy head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam at a seminar on December 16 to seek solutions for the reopening of international routes.

The new Covid-19 variant Omicron will affect Vietnam’s plan to resume international flight routes, according to the transport ministry.

Vietnam is trialing the seven-day quarantine policy for international vaccine holders and proposing to open regular domestic flights for those testing negative for coronavirus and are fully vaccinated.

Local budget airline VietJet Air has announced the re-launch of a number of international routes that will connect the nation with regional destinations such as Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Taiwan (China) in April.
