(VNF) - In 2014, the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang implemented a range of perse solutions to boost sustainable poverty reduction, including giving loans, seedlings, animals and housing support to poor families.

According to the provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2014, over 9,600 poor and nearly-poor families were given loans for production; nearly 35,000 poor families were given support for power supply fees totaling over VND16 billion; and tens of thousands of poor families received seedlings support and technique in production.

Last year, the province also allocated over VND180 billion to build the infrastructure in extremely disadvantaged villages, spent over VND30 billion on poverty reduction projects, which helped ethnic minority people in remote areas escape poverty.

The efforts contributed to pull the poverty rate to 14%, a reduction of over 4% compared to 2013.

Continued efforts are being made to realise the target of reducing the poverty rate to below 10% by the end of this year. Accordingly, the province has focused on increasing programs on employment, expanding effective poverty reduction models, effectively carrying out poverty reduction projects; increasing investment to districts that have a high rate of poverty./.
