(VNF)- The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) has held a conference to look back at the ties forged between Vietnam and other countries in the first six months of this year.

The conference was also meant to outline plans for the remaining months of the year.

Don Tuan Phong, Deputy Chair and General Secretary of the VUFO, underscored major tasks performed in the past six months, especially those held to boost international ties in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the country’s National Day (September 2), VUFO’s 65th Traditional Day and the 20th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties (1995-2015).

During the first half of the year, the union hosted a clutch of major events including an international gala marking the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification (April 30); programs tracing President Ho Chi Minh’s journeys in China, Laos and Thailand in commemoration of the President’s 125th birthday; and a Vietnam-China Border Festival.

During the reviewed period, the union received 171 aid projects with a total pledged funding of 42.5 million USD from foreign non-governmental organizations in such fields of health, education, community development, combats against climate change and social affairs.

The VUFO plans to set up the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association in the time ahead.

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, based in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, is a political organization that is responsible for social advocacy, and strives to promote peace, solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries and non-governmental organizations abroad.
