A variety of cultural activities will take place from November 18 to 23 during the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Week at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi’s Son Tay town.

The Week aims to preserve and promote the traditional cultural heritage of ethnic groups around Vietnam in celebration of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day on November 23.

About 200 ethnic minority people and artists from 13 groups in 13 localities - the Tay, Dao, Mong, Muong, Thai, Kho Mu, Ta Oi, Co Tu, E De, Khmer, Cham, Kinh, and Raglai - and local tourism associations and agencies will take part.

Visitors can learn about the ethnic minority people’s folk dances, traditional food, crafts, and games.

Highlights will include a replica of the Cai Rang Floating Market in the Mekong Delta's Can Tho city, performances of "don ca tai tu", a type of Vietnamese amateur folk singing recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, traditional music and dance from ethnic minority people in the northwest, central highlands, and the Mekong Delta, a seminar on the development of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, and the opening of the first phase of Phap An Pagoda.

Cai Rang Floating Market, created over 100 years ago, has become a tourism brand of Can Tho. It is a prime example of waterway market culture in the southwestern region, where people buy and sell goods on boats. The Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize several activities to introduce special products and foods of the southwest and promote tourism products in the city, as well as artistic performances.

The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism is located in Dong Mo, Son Tay town, about 45 km from Hanoi’s city center. It covers a total area of more than 1,500 ha with seven functional areas. The 200-ha ethnic village area has a terrain of hills, mountains, valleys, and lakes interwoven into models of traditional village of ethnic groups to recreate the natural and cultural landscapes of village clusters./.
