Vietnam’s team have won 9 medals, including one gold and six silvers, during the first 7 competition days at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Peru, which will end on April 12th.

Khong My Phuong, the only girl in the team, won the gold medal in the girls’ 44-kilogram snatch category when she delivered her best lift of 70 kilograms, 3 kilograms above second-place Gao Yimei of China.

Phuong brought home two other silvers after finishing second in the clean and jerk category with a lift of 146 kilograms and a total lift of 216 kilograms.

Favourite Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan failed to land any gold medals after finishing second in all three categories in the boys’ 56-kilogram event.

Two remaining members of the team, Le Nguyen Quoc Bao and Le Quang Vinh, claimed another silver and two bronze medals./.
