The two PMs discussed concrete measures to further beef up the Viet Nam-Australia comprehensive partnership.

Both sides agreed to continue fostering political trust through the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones.

Turnbull affirmed Australia expects to upgrade the bilateral ties to strategic level and pledged to support Viet Nam to successfully host the APEC Year.

PM Phuc, for his part, thanked Australia for assisting Viet Nam in climate change adaptation, innovation, business startups and capacity building for private sector.
He asked the Australian side to open up market for Vietnamese goods, especially tropical fruits and aquatic products.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Australian PM Turnbull shared Viet Nam’s stance on the importance of ensuring the stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and on settlement of disputes through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
