The world-class cruise liner Quantum of the Seas, carrying over 6,000 passengers and crew members, anchored in Vietnam for the first time in Tan Cang Cai Mep port in the Southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on June 17th.

Quantum of the Seas is owned by the world’s leading cruise company Royal Caribbean International, based in the US. The ship is designed to the same standard as a five-star hotel with a gross tonnage of 168,666 tonnes and rooms for 4,905 guests and 1,500 crew members.

The 18-deck ship is considered one of the most modern and luxurious liners in the world.

Vietnam is one of the destinations on its 53-day voyage, starting from New Jersey Port in the USA and travelling through several European and Asian countries to reach China’s Shanghai city before retracing the route in reverse.

During their one-day stay in Vietnam, passengers visited Ba Ria-Vung Tau and neighbouring Ho Chi Minh City.

Captain Srecko Ban told reporters that he was pleased to have brought the ship and its passengers to Vietnam, particularly Ho Chi Minh City – an attractive and interesting destination. This was also a chance for the ship owners to seek cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese companies and localities.

Vietnam’s Saigontourist has been Royal Caribbean International’s official tourism partner since 2013.

The US group also took this occasion to meet with officials from various coastal provinces, such as Thua Thien-Hue, Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang, with a view to boosting cooperation on seaport infrastructure improvements in order to be able to service the firm’s large cruise ships in the future./.
