In 2022, the relationship between the two countries had a successful series of diplomatic events across many sectors. According to the British Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam, there are 10 outstanding events that reflect on bilateral cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. |
In June 2022, at the invitations of Speaker of the UK House of Lords John McFall and Speaker of the UK House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue and the Vietnamese delegation visited the UK. During the visit, the British Parliament and the Vietnamese National Assembly agreed on new measures to further deepen the UK - Viet Nam bilateral cooperation in various fields, such as cooperation to tackle climate change as well as promoting cooperation in implementing commitments at the COP26 Conference. UK Defence and its industrial partners attended the Expo to demonstrate support for Viet Nam’s modernisation programme, alongside showcasing UK innovative capabilities as part of our continued commitment to partnering in the region. At the Expo, Minister Heappey reiterated the UK’s Indo-Pacific tilt, of which Viet Nam is a key partner. The Viet Nam Defence 2022 EXPO provided an invaluable opportunity for the UK to build relationships with Viet Nam’s armed forces and to discuss collaboration on regional defence and security challenges. |

In December 2022, leaders from Viet Nam and the International Partners Group, including the United Kingdom, the European Union, France, Germany, the United States, Italy, Canada, Japan, Norway and Denmark have today agreed to an ambitious new Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The JETP will mobilise an initial $15.5 billion of public and private finance over the next three to five years to support Viet Nam’s green transition. The Partnership will support Viet Nam to deliver on its ambitious Net Zero 2050 goal, accelerate the peaking of its greenhouse gas emissions, and transition away from fossil fuels to clean energy. |
Viet Nam National Trade Repository (VNTR) is a free-to-access online information platform providing the latest trade regulations and information for businesses which need to export and import to and from Viet Nam. The UK Government is proud to support the Viet Nam Ministry of Industry and Trade in improving the country's business environment by having consistent, transparent and accessible information on non-tariff measures in the VNTR. |
In August 2022, UK Home Office Permanent Under-Secretary Matthew Rycroft and Viet Nam Vice Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang co-chaired the inaugural UK – Viet Nam migration dialogue. Among topics of discussion between the two sides were communication on immigration and safe migration, migrant returns, the issue of fraudulent documents, updated policies on immigration as well as addressing human trafficking. |
In November in London, Viet Nam Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien and Permanent Secretary of the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Tamara Finkelstein signed an MOU, the first of its kind, in agriculture. The agreement aims to lay a new millstone for fostering trade relations in agriculture and help bolster the relationship and support the two countries’ priority agri-produce. |
