According to the announcement, players from Vietnam Youth Chess Team compete at the 2024 Asian Youth Chess Championship, held from June 9-21, 2024 in Almaty (Kazakhstan). The Vietnamese Youth Chess team participated in the tournament with 48 players, competing in all content and age groups.
They compete in the rapid chess matches on June 10 and 11. Standard chess matches will be played from June 12-19. On June 20-21, the blitz chess event will be held.

On June 11, the Vietnam Youth Chess Team won the first Gold medal of the tournament, thanks to the competition results of player Dinh Nho Kiet (U16 male).
He finished 7 quick games with the best result of 6.5 points, thereby ranking 1st place. Another Vietnamese player, Tran Ngoc Minh Duy, also won a Silver medal when he won a total of 6 points, ranking 2nd place.
Other outstanding results are Bronze medalist Nguyen Thanh San (U8 male), Bronze medalist Phan Tran Nguyen Khoi (U10 male), Bronze medalist Le Anh Tu (U12 male), Bronze medalist Nguyen Vu Bao Chau (U8 female).
In an interview, Vice President and General Secretary of Vietnam Chess Federation Nguyen Minh Thang said that although Vietnamese Chess players are not in the grandmaster level, they are doing their best. For example, chess player Dinh Nho Kiet (U16 male) won the first Gold medal for the Vietnam Youth Chess Team at this tournament.
The 2024 Asian Youth Chess Championship gathers more than 640 players competing in age groups from U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 for male and female categories of 32 chess teams from countries and territories. The tournament includes three chess types of rapid chess, blitz chess, and standard chess for both males and females.
