Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Islands Dubbed World Natural Heritage by UNESCO
Speaking at the event, Jonathan Wallace Baker, Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, said Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized as a World Natural Heritage thanks to the efforts of government and agencies, along with relevant units and local people promoting balanced and sustainable development of the heritage area.
According to Jonathan Wallace Baker, the two provinces, units, and local people still have a long way to achieve the long-term goal of sustainable economic development, including preserving this invaluable World Natural Heritage Site following the requirements of the World Heritage Convention.

The implementation of commitments is important when Vietnam begins its term as one of the 21 member countries of the World Heritage Committee in 2024.
Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong City, thanked UNESCO, the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other organizations for their interest in helping the two localities. Hai Phong and Quang Ninh will develop an action program to preserve the heritage value of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago.
Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago has 775 limestone islands in Ha Long Bay and 358 limestone islands in Cat Ba Archipelago, covered with rich vegetation on the water's surface.
Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago is considered a geological museum, containing heritage with outstanding global value, and witnessing typical changes in the Earth's historical development.
This is also a place with a high level of diversity in Asia, possessing 7 adjacent marine-island, tropical, and subtropical ecosystems, including a primary tropical rainforest ecosystem, cave ecosystem, mangrove ecosystem, intertidal ecosystem, coral reef, and saltwater lake ecosystem.
These ecosystems represent ecological and biological processes that are still evolving and developing, as demonstrated by the diversity of plant and animal communities.
Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago is also home to a habitat of many rare species of animals and plants.
On September 16, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the World Heritage Committee - UNESCO recognized the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago as a world natural heritage.
