The donations were collected at the launching ceremony for this year’s first donation drive to collect money for the Fund, held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hanoi.
Vice-Chairman of the VFF Committee of Hanoi Nguyen Sy Truong said the warm response to the drive demonstrates that the country’s sea and islands are always in the hearts of Hanoi people.
The fundraising drive aims at raising funds to help build a multi-functional cultural house on Thuyen Chai A Island in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and organize a number of activities to promote the country’s sea and islands.
The drive will last until April 15, as reported by Vietnam Plus.
Earlier in December 2020, over VND 34 billion (over US$ 1.4 million) was raised for the “For national seas and islands – For the fatherland frontline” fund at an art exchange program co-organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee in Ho Chi Minh City and the municipal television station HTV.
All the donations were used to carry out specific tasks and projects in 2021, such as communications to raise public awareness on the national sea and island sovereignty, and support for soldiers and officers who are on their duty in, as well as the people living in, border and island areas, among others.

In her opening remarks, Chairwoman of the VFF Committee in Ho Chi Minh City To Thi Bich Chau highlighted the significance of the program, expressing her thanks to organizations, individuals, enterprises, Vietnamese ex-pats, and donors for their assistance to the fund over the last eight years.
In 2021, the fund will provide medical equipment to a health station on Nam Yet Island, help repair Song Tu Tay primary School on Song Tu Tay Island, maintain and repair the base of the DK1/10 platform in Navy Region 2, build a cultural house on Thuyen Chai A Island, and carry out a project on freshwater supply in border areas, according to Nhan Dan Online.
The Ho Chi Minh City fund alone had also raised over VND 41 billion in 2020, which has been spent on a series of activities, including helping officers, soldiers and people in border and island areas.
Outstanding individuals with significant contributions to the fund and those who have made great effort to support sea and island areas were honored on the occasion.
The Permanent Office of the Steering Board of the Fund for Vietnam’s seas and islands and the People’s Army Newspaper (PAN) held a discussion on July 9, 2020 on the launch of the “Fund for Vietnam’s Seas and Islands” website. As of July 9, the website provided readers with more than 600 articles, videos, audio clips, and photoreports with high quality and in adherence to the directions of the Steering Board of the Fund for Vietnam’s Seas and Islands. |
