Ultraviolet (UV) index in Da Nang stands at level 11 (very strong) on July 11-12, which is defined as very strong, raising the risk of skin damage in direct sunlight, read weatheronline.co.uk. Meanwhile, Hanoi hits level 9 during the two days.

As the hot spell is highly exacerbated by low humidity, there are warnings of fire and explosion hazards, as well as a high risk of forest fire.

It is forecast that the hot weather will continue to sweep the northern and central provinces in the next 10 days.

The prolonged heatwave may cause health issues and increased risks of fires and other accidents at residential areas as demand for electricity spikes.

Statistics show since the beginning of this year, the average temperature of the whole country has been 1 to 2.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average level of previous years, and the upward trend is forecast to last till October this year.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area combined with wind convergence of up to 5000 m, trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day and tonight (July 11) in the Northwest and Viet Bac regions, comprising Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Thai Nguyen provinces.

There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas (especially in Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang provinces), and inundation in low-lying areas.
