General Secretary To Lam Meets Vietnamese Community During Embassy Visit in Malaysia

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia, Dinh Ngoc Linh, reported that more than 30,000 Vietnamese citizens currently live, study, and work in Malaysia, primarily in the western peninsula. The capital Kuala Lumpur and the states of Penang, Johor, and Ipoh host the largest concentrations of Vietnamese residents.
Ambassador Dinh noted that the Vietnamese community in Malaysia is largely united, hardworking, and supportive of one another. They adhere well to Vietnamese and Malaysian laws and integrate effectively into local society.

Ambassador Dinh emphasized that Vietnam’s strong global position, driven by the Party and State’s sound leadership and policies, has fostered a dynamic and rapidly developing nation. This has created favorable conditions for Vietnam’s diplomatic missions abroad and inspired the Vietnamese community in Malaysia to uphold patriotism, national pride, and trust in the leadership of the Party and State. The community has also expressed joy and pride in Vietnam’s achievements over nearly 40 years of renovation and development.
In her remarks, Tran Thi Chang, Chairwoman of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, described the meeting as a deeply memorable and inspiring event. She highlighted the attention and support from the Vietnamese Party, State, and Government toward overseas Vietnamese, particularly those in Malaysia. Chang expressed hope that Vietnam’s leadership would continue supporting overseas Vietnamese and facilitating opportunities for investment and collaboration. She also called for cooperation between Vietnamese and Malaysian authorities to address challenges, such as ensuring legal rights for Vietnamese brides in Malaysia.
Speaking at the gathering, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy and emotion at meeting staff from the Vietnamese Embassy, community representatives, businesses, and Vietnamese students in Malaysia in a warm and patriotic atmosphere. He announced that during his official visit to Malaysia, the two countries agreed to upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This upgrade is a significant milestone, opening vast opportunities for collaboration as the two nations enter a new phase of development. The strengthened bilateral ties aim to deliver benefits to both peoples and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and economic integration.

General Secretary To Lam encouraged Vietnamese citizens in Malaysia to comply with local laws and labor contracts, uphold the image of hardworking and compassionate Vietnamese people, and actively integrate into Malaysian society. He expressed confidence that the Vietnamese community in Malaysia would continue to grow, maintain solidarity, and contribute to the development of their homeland while preserving and promoting Vietnamese language and cultural traditions.
Regarding the Vietnamese community in Malaysia, General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed the Party and State’s commitment to overseas Vietnamese, emphasizing that they are an inseparable part of the nation and a vital resource for Vietnam. He noted that the Vietnamese Government has implemented policies to support and care for its overseas citizens.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Vietnamese Embassy in fostering Vietnam-Malaysia relations, General Secretary To Lam urged Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh and all embassy staff, along with other Vietnamese agencies in Malaysia, to continue their excellent work. He called for a focus on deepening and enhancing bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
The General Secretary also highlighted the importance of community support, urging the embassy to address issues related to residency, employment, business, and education for Vietnamese expatriates. He encouraged the Vietnamese community in Malaysia to integrate more effectively into local society and make meaningful contributions to their homeland’s development.
