About 500 Activities Held to Celebrate 50 Years of Vietnam-Japan Ties

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception for Tsutomu Takebe, special advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance in Hanoi on October 27, VNA reported.

Special advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Takebe Tsutomu is visiting Hanoi from October 26-28.

Son expressed his delight that the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership continues to develop strongly and comprehensively with high political trust.

Since the beginning of this year, the two sides have organized about 500 activities to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, including 100 visits and exchanges, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries, especially the young generations, he said.

The FM thanked Takebe for his attachment and continued efforts in consolidating and strengthening Vietnam-Japan relations through practical activities such as the building of Vietnam-Japan University and the promotion of cooperation in the fields of labor and internship.

He also lauded Takebe's coordination with Quang Ninh province to organize the Hokkaido Festival in Ha Long in November with a range of activities including cultural exchanges and events promoting investment, trade, agriculture, labour and tourism.

For his part, the Japanese special advisor expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam to prepare for the Hokkaido Festival in Ha Long, saying that it will be one of the important activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He also took the occasion to ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to create favorable conditions for and support the festival organization and the activities of Vietnam - Japan University.

The festival, to be held at the October 30 Square and the Quang Ninh planning, fair and exhibition palace in Hong Hai ward of Ha Long.

The Quang Ninh People’s Committee and the Hokkaido prefectural administration will sign an agreement on comprehensive cooperation on this occasion.

The Hokkaido Festival in Ha Long will feature such activities as a Quang Ninh - Japan investment promotion conference, an exhibition of Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine, street art performances, a workshop on cultural - tourism ties and human resources development, and a friendly golf tournament, among others.

The festival aims to help introduce the cultural traditions of Quang Ninh and Hokkaido, as well as the two countries in general, and attract foreign visitors to the Vietnamese province.

The opening ceremony is expected to draw about 4,000-5,000 people, including Japanese artisans and artists, according to the Quang Ninh administration.
