Agro-forestry and fishery exports estimated at US$6.1 billion in first two months

The export turnover of Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products stood at an estimated US$2.6 billion in February, bringing the sector’s export revenue in the first two months of 2018 to US$6.1 billion, an increase of 30.2% annually.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the export value of primary agricultural products was estimated at US$3.3 billion, up 27.8% annually, while the export revenue of aquatic products was reported at approximately US$1.2 billion, up 29.5% against the same period last year.

The exports of wood and key wooden products earned Vietnam revenue of roughly US$1.43 billion in the January-February period, representing a 28.5% annual increase.

Vietnam's agro-forestry and fishery export revenues in the first two months of 2018 increase by 30.2% annually.

The total volume of rice exports in the past two months was estimated at 861,000 tonnes, worth US$419 million, up 17.2% in volume and nearly 34% in value compared to the same period of 2017.

Cashew nut exports reported the largest growth among the agricultural products, with a volume of 54,000 tonnes, up more than 73%, and a value of US$555 million, up nearly 95% over the same period last year.

The exports of fruit and vegetables maintained stable growth, surging by 59.5% annually to US$672 million.

Meanwhile, Vietnam earned US$348 million from exporting 238,000 tonnes of rubber in the first two months of the year, up 29.5% in volume but down 6.4% in value over the same period of 2017. A similar situation was witnessed in the exports of pepper, with a volume of 30,000 tonnes, up 36.5%, and a value of US$121 million, down nearly 21%.

Additionally, the import value of the agro-forestry and fishery sectors was estimated at US$5.29 billion in the January-February period, up 30.6% annually, generating a trade surplus of US$819.3 million, up 27.7% annually./.
