Australia to help Da Nang tackle shortage of skilled labours in tourism industry

(VNF) – Australia and Vietnam are committed to tackle the challenge of skilled labour in Da Nang. The statement was made in a roundtable discussion held in the city last week.

The dialogue was held on October 13 by the Australia Vietnam Hospitality and Tourism Roundtable, the Da Nang People’s Committee and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The meeting aimed to identify a policy approach to help address the skilled labours shortage in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Based on the demand for skilled labours in Da Nang, representatives from tourism industry and government administration decided to set up a consultative mechanism which facilitates closer dialogues between governmental agencies, the industry insiders and training providers.

With its rich expertise in skills training, Australia is willing to lend supports to Da Nang's inclusive economic growth opportunities along the tourism value chain, stated the Embassy of Australia in Vietnam.

Currently, the hospitality sector in Da Nang is employing around 14,000 people, of which 40% are skilled labours. However, the training capacity of 12 colleges and vocational centres in the region is limited, as they can only provide training for around 5,000 students a year.

According to Vice Director of the city’s Tourism Department Nguyen Xuan Binh, the city’s hospitality sector would face a deficiency of skilled manpower by 2020 when 27,000 employees will be needed to meet with the demand of the sector./.
