Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated every year in recognition of the 67 years that Nelson Mandela spent in serving humanity and fighting for freedom and justice. The celebration seeks to mobilize the solidarity of the international community in entrenching the values of freedom and justice that Nelson Mandela fought for. It is about creating a global movement for good, which recognises that positive change begins with small and inpidual actions and serves as a catalyst for people around the world to realise that each and every one of us has the ability to change the world. For this reason, the United Nations declared July 18th as the Nelson Mandela International Day in 2009.

2017 is the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s Birth Day and marks the fourth year in which the Nelson Mandela Day will be organised and celebrated in the absence of the great iconic leader who demonstrated, through perseverance and principle that each and every one of us has the ability to change the world through self-sacrifice and action./.
