After 25 years of construction and development, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai has obtained perse achievements, becoming an economic driving force of the northwest.

Talking with a correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency in Lao Cai province on the 25th anniversary of the province’s foundation (October 1st), Nguyen Van Vinh, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, said that the province had recorded an economic growth rate of 14.1% in the 2011-2015 period, with economic structure changing from agricultural production into industrial, service and tourism production. In 2015, the agricultural, forestry and fisheries proportion accounted for 15.7%, while the industrial and construction sector was 43.1% and the service sector was 41.2%.

The province has re-structured economic development in line with industrialization and modernization, in connection with boosting social development, protecting the environment, ensuring defence and security, and expanding external relations.

Rapid development has been reported in commercial services by promoting the strength of border economic areas and the Sa Pa tourism site, making the service economy a driving force with an average growth rate of 15.4% per year.

According to Mr. Vinh, the province’s socio-economic infrastructure has been synchronously upgraded and expanded, marked by the building of some modern constructions.

Remarkable progress has also been made in providing education, training and healthcare for people, while the culture of 25 groups in the province has been preserved and developed, helping raise people’s spiritual and material lives.

Regarding Party building work, Mr. Vinh said that the provincial Party Committee had confirmed its comprehensive leadership in all areas; focused on raising leadership ability in each Party organization, building a politically, ideologically and organizationally strong Party Committee.

Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ethical example have become regular work in the provincial Party Committee and society.

Meanwhile, the provincial Party Committee has increased its inspection over realising political tasks and ensuring the quality and efficiency of work, which has helped promptly detect wrongdoings of Party members and organizations for adjustments.

In addition, by increasing mass mobilization work, the provincial Party Committee has helped reinforce the relationship between the Party and people./.
