Ca Mau has two island communes recognized

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Tan Dung has recognized two communes of the southernmost province of Ca Mau as island communes, including Tan An in Ngoc Hien district and Khanh Binh Tay in Tran Van Thoi district.

Tan An commune covers 6,654.3 hectares and has a population of 4,644 people in five hamlets, including Hon Khoai with an area of 501.8 hectares but no residents apart from armed forces.

While Khanh Binh Tay commune has an area of 5,063 hectares with 13,296 inhabitants in nine hamlets, of which Hon Da Bac islands group covers 6.43 hectares and has both residents and armed forces.

According to the PM’s decision, an island commune must satisfy two criteria on natural area being island under Point 19 of the Vietnam Sea Law 2012 and settlement of citizens or armed forces./.
