Ca Mau inaugurates wind power plant project

On September 26th, the construction of the Khai Long tourism site wind power plant was inaugurated in Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district, in the southern province of Ca Mau, with a capital of over VND5.5 trillion for the first phase.

The first phase of the project is being built on the continental shelf on an area of 2,165 hectares, providing a productivity of 100 MW.

Surveys in combination with wind statistics by the World Bank and the Ca Mau provincial Meteorological Station showed that Ngoc Hien district has an average wind velocity of some 7 metres per second, which is suitable for wind power investment. The project will involve 50 wind turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each, with wind device technologies being the most advanced technologies provided by prestigious, major global groups.

In terms of power infrastructure system, the project builds 51 transformer stations, 2.6 kilometres of 22kV line and an underground cable system with a length of 62 kilometres.

When completed in the next 36 months, the project will contribute to dealing with power shortages in the southern region by producing 280 million kW per hour for the national grid, promoting the development of alternative energy, including wind power./.
