On October 3, the consulting team presented the plan at the workshop on urban drainage plan of Long Xuyen City up to 2035, with the vision to 2050. Vice Minister of Construction Nguyen Dinh Toan, leadership of the Administration of Technical Infrastructure and other relevant departments under MoC, representatives from local authorities and relevant provincial departments and companies participated in this workshop.
In addition to the required contents, the urban drainage plan for Long Xuyen city addresses urban flooding under the impacts of climate change, integrates current flood map, as well as forecasted floods combined with the climate change scenario announced by Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment (MONRE).
Based on these, solutions are developed for the drainage plan that features the structural and non-structural drainage solutions, combined with application of urban sustainable drainage systems.
Vice Minister Nguyen Dinh Toan appreciates the valuable support of German and Swiss Governments to Vietnam via GIZ, especially in tackling the challenges in drainage and flood management that the Mekong Delta has to face. He acknowledged that the plan met the requirements and instructed that consulting team to elaborate further the methodology of the flood map, presentation of the drawings, the combination of solutions and critical review of the plan to ensure higher quality.
After the conference, Vice Minister Toan and the delegation had a technical visit to An Giang’s wastewater treatment plant with the design capacity of 20,000 m3/day in which phase 1 has completed with capacity of 10,000 m3/day. They also visited some new urban areas of Long Xuyen City.
Prior to that, on October 2, the consulting team presented the urban drainage plan of Ca May City to local authority and relevant departments. The drainage plan for Rach Gia will be presented at the workshop on October 10./.
