Canadian Businesses Show Interest in the Vietnamese Market

The largest business delegation led by Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng will come to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024 to explore cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

This business trip aims to promote the Vietnam - Canada Comprehensive Partnership and also to expand Canada's presence in the ASEAN region. Besides, the visit coincided with the second meeting of the Vietnam - Canada Joint Economic Committee in Vietnam.

Minister Mary Ng said she hopes that Canadian businesses participating in this delegation will deploy operations in potential markets such as Vietnam and strengthen supply chain connections.

Leaders of Canadian firms will have meetings and discussions with Vietnamese partners, associations and businesses to learn about policy-related issues and opportunities to take advantage of the trade agreement as well as existing mechanisms between the two countries and investment, sales, and supply opportunities in Vietnam.

This is the second business delegation organized by the Canadian Government within the framework of its Indo-Pacific Strategy worth nearly USD 2 billion.

Last month, Minister Mary Ng led a delegation of over 160 Canadian businesses to Japan. In this strategy, Canada sets five main goals, including expanding trade, investment, and supply chain development in this region.

After 50 of years diplomatic ties (1973 - 2023), Vietnam - Canada relations are developing more and more positively in all fields from economics, trade, investment, social culture, science and technology, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.

Vietnam has become Canada's leading economic partner in ASEAN and Canada has become Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in the Americas. With positive growth prospects, both countries have great demands and opportunities from the cooperation potential of the Canadian business delegation to Vietnam this time.

Several Canadian businesses that previously had never considered doing business outside North America. But nowadays, they see Vietnam as the bridge to enter the ASEAN market. On the contrary, with advantages in technology, finance, customer network, and logistics in the Americas, Canada can also be the bridge for Vietnamese businesses to scale up and reach out to the world.
