Capital attracts 445 FDI projects

The capital Hanoi has attracted 445 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects so far this year, with a total registered capital of USD2.8 billion, a 2.6 fold increase over a year earlier.

The capital Hanoi has attracted 445 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects so far this year, with a total registered capital of USD2.8 billion, a 2.6 fold increase over a year earlier.

This was announced Mr. Tran Ngoc Nam, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, in a recent press briefing held by the city Party Committee Commission for Popularization and Education.

Most of the capital was poured into big projects in prioritized or key fields, including Samsung Development and Research Centre (USD300 million), Duong River Surface Water Treatment Plant (USD227 million) and Vietnammobile Company (USD208 million).

The city has so far lured and realized 98 ODA projects with a pledged finance of USD4.8 billion, a signed value of USD3.2 billion and a disbursed capital of USD1.05 billion; 33.38% of the signed value and 22.1% of the pledged value.

Urban transport infrastructure made up the largest ODA projects with 56%, followed by water supply and drainage, waste water treatment (31.8%).

Tran Ngoc Nam stressed that the increasingly transparent and improved business climate offered favourable conditions for more and more enterprises to register for establishment. About 22,000 enterprises are expected to be formed in 2016 with a registered capital of VND203 trillion, up 19% in number and 42% in capital over a year earlier.

Also according to the Department of Planning and Investment, the Gross Regional Domestic Product is estimated to increase 8.03% in 2016, marking the highest-ever rate over the past six years. State budget collection will reach an estimated VND173.84 trillion, up 2.6% over the estimate assigned by the city People’s Council./.
