He is Truong Huu Khanh (54 years old), Dean of Infection Control at Children’s Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh city.

With 27 years of medical examination, treatment and counseling for thousands of children, Dr. Khanh is also known affectionately as “the doctor loving children.”

Dr. Khanh said he knew the story of primary students in Bao Lam district through media.

When doing epidemic prevention, I usually check schools’ toilets because they are the place where disease can spread easily. Lack of toilets for children is something very harmful. Many children who want to go to the toilet but there is nowhere, have to hold their need, affecting to their health”, said the 54- year- old doctor.

The doctor will finance the construction of toilets in 3 schools including Loc Ngai D Primary school, Loc Duc B Primary school and Long Giang Primary school, all in Bao Loc district.

Funds for construction were taken from Dr.Khanh’s salary. Khanh’s wife is also very supportive of her husband’s plans.

“Many contractors initially accepted to survey conditions of construction areas. However, when the inspection was complete, they all withdrew because there was no profit”, he said.

By the end of 2015, Dr. Khanh was inadvertently acquainted with a contractor named Chu Duc Hung (Lam Dong). Via telephone exchange, Hung accepted to help.

“As surveying in the schools, I really want to give up, because it’s very remote and difficult for material transportation”, Hung said, adding that the “project” had no interest. However, witnessing the dedication of Dr.Khanh and the difficulties of students, Hung agreed to assist.

About two weeks ago, two clean and modern toilets, each of which is worth nearly 60 million, were inaugurated, handed over to Loc Ngai D Primary school and Loc Duc B Primary school.

According to Dr. Khanh, he will continue this meaning work. Some doctors and sponsors knowing his work contacted to contribute funds but he has not accepted the offer./.
