The southern province of Dong Thap has built dozens of residential areas to provide stable accommodation for some 11,200 households, including 8,800 households repeatedly affected by natural disasters and 2,400 households in border areas, the provincial People’s Committee has reported.
The project aims to implement a plan to relocate residents living in areas often affected by natural disasters and those in border regions that face housing difficulties.
According to the provincial People’s Committee, so far, 7,713 households have been located in the newly-built residential areas, meeting nearly 69% of the plan.

In the second phase of the implementation of the plan, from 2016 to 2020, the province is expected to invest VND1.456 trillion to build an additional 29 new residential areas on an area of 168 hectares, providing accommodation for 6,120 disadvantaged households.
The projects offer improved infrastructure and are built in an attempt to help residents have adequate accommodations in connection with job creation, thus assisting residents to sustainably escape poverty.
The provincial People’s Committee has also suggested that the Government increase loans for housing in residential areas to VND30 million per household, instead of the current VND20 million, to make it easier for residents in disadvantaged regions to have better housing./.
