A photo exhibition opened in Ha Giang province on November 13th, featuring 80 works by ethnic minority children portraying their dreams and daily life.

The exhibition titled "I love the Karst Plateau" has been organised by the Institute for Studies of Society, Economy and Environment (iSEE) and Plan International with local authorities in Meo Vac district.

Vu Phuong Thao, deputy head of iSEE, said the event was part of the Action for H'mong Children series of event and the exhibition will show how children perceive and reflect the world with their own eyes.

"Not only will the exhibition help ethnic children express their dreams and thoughts to the community, it also help the children connect more with the outside world," she said.

34 children and young people in Can Chu Phin commune were given cameras in June. 80 photos, which are on display at Can Chu Phin secondary school in Meo Vac district, were selected from thousands of photos taken by ethnic children over the last five months.

H'mong university students who are studying in Hanoi were asked to come and teach the children how to use the cameras. Pham Ngoc Nam from iSEE said the children were very shy at first, but became more confident.

"After joining the programme, I’ve become more confident and it's fun. I’ve shown my photos to my dad and he said they're good," 13-year-old Vu Thi Sung said.

A photo of the school by 19-year-old Ly Thi Va, who has never been to school, has moved many people. Hoang Thanh Hai, headmaster of Can Chu Phin school said he was planning on open a class for young people like Va./.
