Among the 60 conscripts, 32 volunteered to begin their military service early and 70 per cent have university, college or vocational training degrees.

Ba Dinh conscripts will be despatched to three units including Division 371 of the Air Defence Force, Division 301 of the Capital High Command and Brigade 164 of the 2nd Corps.

At the ceremony, Secretary Hai said he expected new military recruits to uphold the traditions of the armed forces, always fulfilling all assigned tasks and helping to build a professional, modernised and well-trained military.

In 2017, Hanoi is to conscript 3,500 citizens to serve in the military and another 570 to serve in the police force.

Ceremonies are also held across the country to comfort and send off young people into military service.

A total of 900 young people in Da Nang joined military service this year, in which 10 of them are women. In addition, 210 more were sent to serve at the municipal police force for a short term.
