International workshop on educational skills standards development
A skills standards development and validation workshop opened in Ho Chi Minh city on March 1st by the Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh city.

It was the highlight of a Vocational Education and Training capacity-building project that commenced in November 2014.

Led by the Australian Government in partnership with industry organisations in Australia, a central aim of the project is to share Australia’s experience and expertise in building better linkages between the training system and industry, so that training matches industry needs.

The workshop brought government and industry representatives together to discuss the development of core occupational standards in four priority industry sectors across Australia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

“This project will surely contribute to skills training and skills recognition not only across our three countries, but also across ASEAN more broadly, to meet labor market demands and foster economic growth. I believe this project has met its primary objective of developing the capacity of the Philippines and Vietnam to involve industry in the development of their training systems”, said Ms Lanyon.

The Australian Government has provided approximately AUD1 million under its aid program to help build capacity in the development of occupational standards through shared expertise between Australia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Officials from Vietnam’s General Directorate of Vocational Training also participated in a five-day technical workshop in Sydney in March 2015 and a two-week secondment in Australia in September-October 2015./.
