Italy’s 72nd National Day marked in HCM city
(VNF) - The Italian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on June 1st to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the National Day of Italy (June 2nd, 1946 - 2018) and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between two countries (March 23rd, 1973 - 2018).

The event drew the presence of Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Cecilia Peccioni and a group from the Italian community in Ho Chi Minh City.
Addressing the ceremony, Italian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City, Dante Brandi, said that throughout the 45 years of diplomatic relations, the relationship between Vietnam and Italy has been strengthened and developed, particularly after the strategic partnership agreement was signed five years ago.
The bilateral trade has grown strongly, approximating USD 5 billion annually over the last five years. The figure is targeted at USD 6 billion in 2017 and 2018. While cultural, tourism, scientific and educational relations have been expanded, locality-to-locality cooperation has also been promoted. With the wholehearted support of Italian people, the Vietnamese community in the country has also actively maintained and popularised Vietnam’s culture.
He noted that the Consulate General will actively promoted cooperation with localities in the South of Vietnam to foster partnerships in potential areas of infrastructure, water and waste management, smart city development, agriculture-industry, and cultural exchange.

Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Pham Duc Hai emphasised that Ho Chi Minh City is the leading locality in Vietnam when it comes to fostering relations with Italy, saying that the city will continue to cooperate with Italy’s localities to realize cooperation potential between the two sides.
Vietnam and Italy posted two-way trade revenue of USD 624 million in 2017, up 5 per compared to 2016. Italy is currently investing in 34 projects in Ho Chi Minh City with a total registered capital of USD 69 million, ranking 25th out of 95 countries and territories investing in Ho Chi Minh City./.
