According to the local administration, Kien Giang has promoted the friendship with Cambodian provinces and cities, especially border ones, to help build a border of peace, friendship and development.
Director of the provincial Department of External Relations Van Cong Dau said the two sides have regularly held meetings to discuss common issues and paired Kien Giang’s border villages with Cambodian peers to support each other, maintain security and order in border areas and strengthen neighbourliness.
Notably, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee has worked with the committees of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland in Kampot and Kep provinces to step up communications and raise awareness of the need for a border of peace and friendship.
Ha Tien city and Giang Thanh district of Kien Giang signed cooperation agreements with Kampong Trach and Banteay Meas districts of Kampot to hold friendship activities. Six pairs of their residential areas have been formed to tighten connections in social and cultural aspects, along with the fight against sabotage schemes targeting border security.
Dau noted that the Kien Giang Women’s Union and the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development committees of Kampot, Kep and Preah Sihanouk provinces also inked cooperation deals for 2015-2020.
They have helped each other organise activities and educate their members and local residents on the two countries’ traditional solidarity. Mutual visits, meetings to share experience in healthcare, crime prevention and poverty reduction, and cultural activities have also been held during the countries’ traditional festivals.
Additionally, the Vietnam Youth Federation Committee of Kien Giang has also maintained ties with the youth organisations of Kampot, Kep, Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong provinces through various activities, including experience sharing, cultural and sports exchanges, presentation of gifts to disadvantaged families, caring for orphans and HIV patients and providing free medicine for poor people.
Kien Giang authorities said they will keep fostering external activities with border provinces of Cambodia./.
