Kien Giang Province calls for investment in 81 projects

Pham Vu Hong, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the projects would run until 2020.
Of these projects, 15 will be in industrial production; 13 in hi-tech agricultural and aquatic cultivation and processes; 11 in commerce; 10 in technical infrastructure in industrial parks; nine in transport; seven in tourism; six in the environment; six in water supply in urban and rural areas; and four in housing and urban development.
The province has invested to complete infrastructure for transport, electricity grids, water supply and a drainage systems, and is continuing administrative reforms.
It is also setting preferential policies and providing assistance for investment based on the government’s common policy framework and local policies.
According to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, 48 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with total registered investment capital of more than US$2.7 billion have been carried out.
Of these, eight FDI projects from Japan, Russia, Australia, Korea and Malaysia have total registered investment capital of more than $1.34 billion, mostly in transport, tourism, services, petroleum transport and sport shoe production.
Many of them are now operating and providing jobs for local residents.
The province has six Official Development Assistance projects with total capital of more than VND243 billion ($10.5 million).
They include one on upgrading Rach Gia City, the Mekong Delta Integrated Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods Project, and another on waste treatment for the Tuberculosis Hospital./.
